Project Folders

Project Folders let you organize your automation projects into logical groups. If you have dozens of projects for different clients, websites, or purposes, folders help you find what you need quickly without scrolling through a long list.

Think of folders like folders on your computer’s desktop — they don’t change what’s inside, they just help you keep things tidy.

On the Automation Projects page, you’ll see a folder sidebar on the left side of the project table. This sidebar shows:

  • All Projects — Shows every project, regardless of which folder it’s in.
  • Default — Shows projects that haven’t been assigned to any custom folder.
  • Custom folders — Any folders you’ve created yourself.

The folder sidebar is always visible on the Automation Projects page. Click any folder to filter the project table to show only projects in that folder.

RTILA X comes with two built-in folders that cannot be deleted:

Folder Purpose Can Be Deleted?
All Projects Shows every project in your workspace. This is the default view. No
Default Holds projects that haven’t been assigned to a custom folder. New projects start here. No

When you first install RTILA X, all your projects will be in the Default folder. As you create custom folders and move projects into them, the Default folder will only contain unassigned projects.

  1. Go to Automation Projects in the sidebar.
  2. In the folder sidebar, click the + button next to the “Workspace” label at the top.
  3. A small dialog appears.
  4. Type a name for your new folder (e.g., “Client A Scrapers” or “E-commerce”).
  5. Click Create Folder.
  6. The new folder appears in the sidebar immediately.
  • Use descriptive names that tell you what’s inside (e.g., “Amazon Product Scrapers” rather than “Folder 1”).
  • Keep names short enough to fit in the sidebar.
  • You can use spaces, hyphens, and special characters in folder names.
  • Folder names are case-sensitive.
  • The folder is added to the sidebar immediately.
  • The folder name is saved to your browser’s local storage for persistence.
  • No projects are moved — the folder starts empty.
  • You can now move projects into this folder.

  1. Select the project you want to move by clicking on it in the project table.
  2. Click Move in the ribbon toolbar.
  3. A Move to Folder dialog appears.
  4. In the Select Destination Folder dropdown, choose the folder you want to move the project to.
  5. Click Move Project.
  6. The project is moved to the selected folder.

If the folder you want doesn’t exist yet, you can create it right from the Move dialog:

  1. In the Move to Folder dialog, look at the section below the dropdown.
  2. Type a name in the New Folder Name field.
  3. Click Add.
  4. The new folder is created and automatically selected as the destination.
  5. Click Move Project to complete the move.
  • The project’s folder property is updated in the database.
  • If you’re currently viewing a different folder, the project disappears from the current view (because it’s now in a different folder).
  • The project is not deleted or duplicated — it’s the same project, just in a different folder.
  • The move is instant and doesn’t affect the project’s commands, datasets, or settings.

When you click a folder in the sidebar, the project table filters to show only projects in that folder.

Folder Selected What You See
All Projects Every project in your workspace, regardless of folder.
Default Only projects that haven’t been assigned to a custom folder.
Custom folder Only projects that have been moved to that specific folder.

You can combine the folder filter with the search bar:

  1. Click a folder to filter by folder.
  2. Type in the search bar to further filter by project name.
  3. The results show only projects that match both the folder and the search term.

Combining Folder Filter with Advanced Filters

Section titled “Combining Folder Filter with Advanced Filters”

You can also combine the folder filter with the Advanced Filters:

  1. Click a folder to filter by folder.
  2. Click the filter icon to open Advanced Filters.
  3. Apply additional filters (e.g., “Headless mode” or “AI-generated”).
  4. The results show projects matching the folder AND the advanced filters.

  1. In the folder sidebar, hover over the folder you want to delete.
  2. A small ✗ button appears on the right side of the folder name.
  3. Click the ✗ button.
  4. A confirmation dialog appears.
  5. Click Confirm to delete the folder.
  • The folder is removed from the sidebar.
  • All projects in that folder are moved to the Default folder. They are NOT deleted.
  • The folder name is removed from local storage.
  • If you were currently viewing that folder, the view switches to All Projects.

Important: Deleting a folder does NOT delete the projects inside it. Your projects are safe — they just move to the Default folder. If you want to delete projects, use the Delete button in the ribbon toolbar.

  • The All Projects folder cannot be deleted.
  • The Default folder cannot be deleted.
  • You cannot delete a folder while a project in it is running.

Folders are stored in your browser’s local storage under the key rtila_folders. This means:

  • Folders persist between sessions (closing and reopening RTILA X).
  • Folders are specific to your browser profile.
  • Folders are NOT synced to the database — they’re purely a local organizational tool.
  1. When you create a folder, the folder name is added to the rtila_folders array in local storage.
  2. When you delete a folder, the folder name is removed from the array.
  3. When RTILA X loads, it reads the rtila_folders array and displays those folders in the sidebar.
  4. Additionally, RTILA X scans all your projects and adds any folder names found in project data that aren’t already in the list. This ensures folders aren’t lost if local storage is cleared.

If your browser’s local storage is cleared (e.g., by clearing browser data):

  • Your custom folder list is lost.
  • However, RTILA X will rebuild the folder list from your projects’ folder assignments.
  • Projects that were in custom folders will still have their folder assignment in the database.
  • The folders will reappear in the sidebar automatically.

When you create a new project, it’s automatically assigned to the folder you’re currently viewing:

  • If you’re viewing All Projects or Default, the new project goes to Default.
  • If you’re viewing a custom folder, the new project goes to that folder.

When you import a project from a JSON file, it’s assigned to the folder you’re currently viewing, just like new projects.

When you clone a project, the clone stays in the same folder as the original.

When the AI Assistant creates a project for you, it’s assigned to the Default folder. You can move it to a custom folder afterward.

Tip Why It Matters
Create folders by client or purpose. Makes it easy to find all projects for a specific client or task.
Use the “All Projects” view for searching. The search works across all folders, so you don’t need to know which folder a project is in.
Don’t create too many folders. More than 10-15 folders can make the sidebar cluttered.
Use the Move button from the ribbon. It’s faster than trying to drag and drop (which isn’t supported for folders).
Check the Default folder regularly. New projects and AI-generated projects land here by default.
Folder names are case-sensitive. “Client A” and “client a” are different folders.
Deleting a folder is safe. Projects move to Default — nothing is lost.
Folders don’t affect project execution. Moving a project to a folder doesn’t change how it runs.
